My AI-generated GLB has great textures — can the print keep them?

Not through the file: STL has no color channel, so every print from it is single-material. For painted prints the usual route is converting to a multi-color workflow at the slicer level or hand-finishing after printing. The geometry converts perfectly; the palette does not exist in STL.

The converted STL is hollow-looking in the slicer preview — is it printable?

Slicers expect a closed, manifold shell. AI-generated and scanned models sometimes have holes or zero-thickness surfaces that render fine on screen but confuse slicing. Run the STL through a mesh-repair tool first; after that, standard print settings apply.

What happens to the PBR textures when my GLB goes to the printer?

They are discarded — STL stores pure triangle positions, full stop. The printed part inherits color only from the filament or resin you choose. Models whose appearance depends on painted textures (characters, product mockups) will print as monochrome shells.

Is the mesh watertight enough for slicing after conversion?

Conversion re-triangulates faithfully but does not heal: if the GLB contained open edges (common in AI-generated or scan-based models), the STL keeps them and the slicer may warn or fill holes its own way. Run it through a mesh-repair pass when the slicer flags non-manifold geometry.

What scale should I expect — will the print come out life-size?

GLB is meters-based; the converter maps to millimeters, the slicer convention, at 1000:1. A 4 cm model imports as 40 units. Always check the bounding-box number in your slicer before slicing — AI-generated GLBs sometimes carry non-physical scale.

Can I print directly from GLB instead, since slicers support it now?

Modern slicers (Bambu Studio, Orca) do read GLB, which preserves units and color hints. Convert to STL when: your slicer is older, a print service requires it, or you want the format-agnostic archival copy. For texture-guided multi-material prints, feed the slicer the GLB.
