Should the print file come from the textured OBJ or a clean export?

From a clean one. Slicing a textured OBJ works but wastes the material work and risks slicing artifacts from edit history. The disciplined flow is: textured OBJ as the master, a converted STL as the print artifact, regenerated whenever the master changes.

Why did my multi-part OBJ become one blob in the slicer?

OBJ groups convert to a single STL shell — the format has no object concept. If parts need separate orientation or colors, split the OBJ in a DCC first and convert each part, or arrange them in the slicer as one combined print.

Do I need to install software to change OBJ into STL?

No. The whole conversion runs as a web page: the OBJ file is parsed by your browser, rewritten to STL locally, and handed back as a download. There is no installer, no plugin and no desktop app in the loop.

What happens to textures, materials on the way from OBJ to STL?

The STL format cannot store textures, materials, so that data is dropped during the rewrite — the geometry itself is unaffected. If those features matter for the asset's next stop, pick a target format that supports them, or keep a copy of the original file.

Will the model look different after OBJ → STL?

Geometry is re-exported as-is, so shape, scale and UV layout stay faithful. The only visible changes come from features the STL format cannot express (textures, materials) — those parts of the material or setup are simplified to whatever STL can store.
